Useless if batteries are dead! January 4, 2009 Roger Jones (Texas) And, they will be. We have had the collar for one month and have gone through several sets of batters. With 3-4 uses a day the collar lasts about 6 hours - with no use it lasts 2 days. What the hell good is this? Also, replacing the batteries is not a snap - two screws have to be manipulated and the battery holder removed. If this only needs to be done every couple of weeks or so no big deal but if you are training your dog you are constantly taking the collar off and putting it back on so the dog starts connecting the collar with punishment - not good.
Highly effective, but with some major flaws December 3, 2008 H. Lee (Fullerton, CA) I really really love this product, but I must give it only 2 stars because it was not built very well. First let me address the ethics of using a "shock collar". Whenever I tell people I got a shock collar for my dog, some of them become livid. I have an Italian greyhound that is a total spaz - I love him to death but sometimes he is too much. He is too smart for his own good. I have had other breeds that were much more obedient and train well. Rather than losing my patience and getting angry, I merely use the collar and he responds immediately. In regards to the shock part - I have tested it on myself and found that it does not hurt but it is rather a "jolt". It has an adjustable zap setting. You start with the lowest and dial it up just until your dog feels it. Mine is set at 3 (my dog has very short hair). This felt like someone was flicking my arm. Do not test on your fingertips as they are very sensitive, and the shock sensation is amplified. My dog never cried, yelped, or whined in pain - it was just enough to cause him to stop what he was doing. The unit has an audible tone feature. I would always use the tone before the zap, so now he associates the two and I don't have to shock him. Now, just reaching for the remote is enough to get him to respond. The collar worked in 5 min what I could not get him to do for weeks! I have had to order replacements, twice. I am on my third one. here are some of the major flaws: - very short battery life (a couple of days) - tone and shock vary collar to collar. The weaker ones have longer battery lives - casing that houses battery is very flimsy and difficult to change out. the first unit I heard something snap inside when I tried to change the battery and discovered it was the contact. - the second unit just stopped working after I changed the battery even though the remote light indicator worked and the collar light indicator worked. -batteries are expensive, so I had to buy mine in packs of 25. The advantage is that this really really works. I was willing to order 2 additional replacements. I thought my dog would not know that the collar had broken, but he does. I am a bit frustrated with the reliability factor and if it breaks again, I don't think that I'll be ordering another one.
remote trainer December 2, 2008 Jay Jay (Orondo, Wa) this trainer works pretty well so far. I did have the first one quit working. I called the customer service number and they were very helpful and sent me out a replacement with no charge. The collar that goes around the dogs neck is really long. just need to adjust it to dogs neck and then cut off the excess. overall I am pleased with this product, would recommend it.
Awesome! November 25, 2008 Tracy Pearson (Redmond, WA USA) This is an excellent training collar! The remote has a belt clip (very helpful), and has only two buttons: one that will send a "warning" noise, one that will send the "shock". There is an easy wheel on the side of the remote that adjusts for the level of shock you need....again, very easy to use. I have had it for a full month, and am now just replacing the batteries in the collar. It uses the most common size of watch/electronic battery, so easy to find at any Target/Walmart, etc. This is NOT a "bark" collar, there a remote that requires that you push a button to give the dog the shock....it's truly a training collar that you use only during training sessions. I am on my 3rd Scottish Terrier, and he is beyond stubborn. I tried everything to stop him from growling and lunging at people when he was on his leash, this is the only thing that has worked! I have only had to go up to level 3 out of 10 on the remote, and have only had to "shock" him maybe 10 times, and now I just put the collar on and he behaves. I was very hestitant to use a "shock" collar, I truly treat my dogs as my children!! I put it on my forearm before using it on him, it's not really a shock; it feels like pin pricks more than anything. I am a strong advocate for the prevention of animal cruelty, and would never, ever recommend something that is cruel or unkind. Worth every penny!!
Good product October 17, 2008 R. Gibbs Product is working out well. My dog really has really benefited by having this. I can now let her off her leash and she can run and play, and if she gets to far, or another dog comes around, all I have to do is use the audible beep and she stays put. Range is good, battery life is decent, and the 1-10 shock setting really allows good control over how much shock the dog receives. I keep my somewhere around 4 or 5, which is just enough to cause a slight discomfort, but not scare or harm her. Would recommend for anyone who has or wants to let their dog off leash.
